In his text “the Joy of the Gospel”, Pope Francis reminds us of the importance of the Virgin Mary who, in the many Marian Shrines, attracts pilgrims who come to venerate her and pray to her. She enables them to “find strength from God to bear the weariness and the suffering in their lives”. Such is the case in Lourdes. The pilgrims who flock to the Grotto of Massabielle, and also those who join us through our website, know it well. In the privacy of their prayer, they entrust their sorrows and joys to Mary. She leads them to her Son, the Saviour Christ, who gives them his peace and consolation.
The Grotto, the place of the Apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette, is the heart of the Sanctuary. The wish of Monsignor Brouwet, our Bishop, is that men and women who come to the Grotto understand how much they are loved by God.
Today we wish to apply our efforts to the welcome and accompaniment of individual pilgrims, of sick or disabled people, of families and young people.
To enable each person to accomplish his or her pilgrimage, the Community of Chaplains is present at the disposition of pilgrims, both for the celebration of the Sacraments and the presentation of catechesis. In the various services, 400 employees and several Religious Communities, together with 100,000 annual voluntary helpers, are committed to helping pilgrims.
We see the fruits of the pilgrims’ experience in Lourdes through the many wonderful and encouraging testimonies received.nWe are well aware that a spiritual, human and financial investment is indispensible to reach the greatest number of people. Our desire is to make this place, bathed in grace, a land of the Gospel, so that everyone may experience the Joy of God.
Through the Internet, you also experience Lourdes.
