The poor: treasures of the church 6-11 August: pilgrimage of the Saint-Laurent network
In France, the Saint-Laurent network connects Christian groups that share Church and faith in a spirit of fraternity with people in a precarious situation.
Every two years since 10 August 2005, a gathering is organized in Lourdes, at the Cité Saint-Pierre, around the feast of St. Lawrence. During these meetings, men and women marked by poverty can be reborn to themselves, "If you knew the gift of God" (John 4:10).
In response to the persecutors of the Church who demanded that the treasures of the Church be handed over to them, St. Lawrence, showing them the poor, exclaimed: "Behold the treasures of the Church". This year, on the theme "The joy of the mission", there are nearly 800 participants who intend to meet in a festive spirit, to support each other, recharge their batteries, and exchange views and experiences, especially on Sunday 9 August, in the Church of St. Bernadette at 3pm, for a time of sharing and witnessing. Mgr Nicolas Brouwet, Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, Mgr Jacques Blaquart, Bishop of Orleans and chairman of the Council for Solidarity, as well as Father Horacio Brito, Rector of the Sanctuary, will join the group.
