Renovation of the Parish Church of Lourdes

The parish church of the Sacred Heart of Lourdes, opened in 1903, contains vestiges of the history of Lourdes and Bernadette: the baptismal font where she was baptized on 9 January 1844, and the tomb of Mgr Peyramale, Curé of Lourdes at the time of the Apparitions, who died on 8 September 1877.

Although the interior of the church was well maintained, the building now suffers from structural problems.Time has done its work: the slates and zinc on the church roof and the woodwork of the steeple have suffered serious damage (water leaks, wood infestation, fissures in the walls ...) which must be fully restored.

The cost of the project is estimated at €600,000, of which a first tranche of urgent work amounts to €293,000. The mayor of Lourdes, in conjunction with the Heritage Foundation and the committee Le toit du choeur, has appealed to the generosity of people to help fund this work.
