130th anniversary of the Hospitality of Lourdes
History teaches us that in the first decades, which followed the Apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette, as early as 1874, sick people took part in pilgrimages to Lourdes. Very soon a necessity for "strong arms" to look after them, was felt. It is thus that was born the Hospitality of Our Lady of Lourdes, whose canonical status, that is its role in the Church, was recognised in 1885. Since then, the hospitaliers of Lourdes have been the faithful artisans of the answer made to Our Lady’s request to "come in procession". Their voluntary work in the service of the pilgrims is without doubt one of the most evocative witnesses to the vitality of the Message of Lourdes.
